This 1 week residency is a direct link into the the main production work of the company and the sharing of theatre making skills and empowering young people with creative processes has been a key element of Spike Theatre’s work over the last 10 years.

By educating others about these styles of work and skill areas, Spike Theatre is adding to the range of options that young people have to participate in. the arts and express themselves. The company has a very strong regional and national profile for producing high quality theatre performance and equipping young people with relevant skills through workshops and residencies of this kind.

During the residency the participants will develop new skills and learn how to:
                    • Create a performance using their ideas.
                    • Improvise text.
                    • Devise scenes.
                    • Create characters.
                    • Develop performance skills.
                    • Perform for friends and family.
                    • Express themselves through both verbal and non-verbal communication.
                    • Learn about themselves and others.
                    • Develop self-confidence.

The schools will develop alongside the practitioner a play, which will focus on the themes suggested by the schools (for example - multi culturism, diversity, citizenship etc.) these will be used in the broadest sense to be able to open debate among the young people who watch the plays.
