Morpheus, Ole-Luk-Oie, The Prince of Dreams, he has many different names in many different cultures; Greta, the clockmakers daughter, knew him from childhood as The Sandman. Her father spoke of him to encourage her to go to bed. But this innocent myth soon transformed into fear, as each night, just on the edge of sleep, a shadow would appear at her bedside…
A ‘clockwork’ theatrical fantasy inspired by ETA Hoffmann’s chilling supernatural tale ‘Der Sandmann’, Freud’s work in child psychology ‘The Uncanny’ and Tim Burton’s gothic expressionism. The Sandman is a theatrically rich, intelligent and visually stunning folktale for adults and brave children.
Marking ten years of national touring, This fantastic new show contains many of Spike Theatre’s award winning trademarks including a compendium of visual storytelling techniques, carefully crafted narrative, a live musical score, animation and puppetry.
